It’s not often a politician is left speechless – but that is what happened a Sinn Fein representative this week.
Albert Doherty, a member of Donegal County Council and a former principal of St Patrick’s Boys in Carndonagh, was full of praise for An Post after receiving a postcard (pictured) from Missouri in America, simply addressed… “Albert, Carndonagh, Ireland.”
Albert’s son, Connor, was also amazed.
He took to social media to describe it as “an extraordinary bit of work by An Post.”
He said: “My dad, Albert Doherty, who is a current Sinn Féin county councillor on Donegal County Council and a former principal of St Patrick’s Boys National School, is after receiving a postcard all the way from Missouri.”
Connor pointed out Albert was also chairman of Carndonagh FC for many years and managed got the letter, by being well known through the football, the school and the council, despite no surname, no street name or house number and no county being put on the postcard.
