A number of homes in the Creggan area of Derry have been badly affected by flooding caused by this morning’s heavy downpours.
The backyards of several homes in the Ballymagowan area of Creggan (pictured) have been flooded as a result of water flooding in from a field at the rear of the homes.
Michelle Kennedy, who lives in one of the houses affected, said that ‘no one was taking responsibility’ for addressing the problem.
Meanwhile, the Creggan Sinn Fein councillor Kevin Campbell, who is at the scene, said that Derry City and Strabane District Council were now putting an emergency plan in place to tackle the situation.
“The council have contacted a contractor who will be putting sandbags down and trying to addrees the situation, but that’s only a temporary measure,” he said.
“Apex Housing has a major responsibility to these people and they need to step up to the mark here.”
