Offensive and racial comments have been daubed on to an EU referendum poster outside Dungiven.
The terms ‘niggers’ and ‘queers’ were stuck on to a Sinn Féin electoral poster which had been erected at a bus stop on the Glenshane Road.
Local Sinn Féin councillor, Sean McGlinchey said that he will be reporting the matter to the police.
Mr McGlinchey said: “Yet again, we see the removal and defacing of electoral posters. It is absolutely despicable that someone would use these highly offensive terms in today’s society.
“This is a hate crime and I will be reporting the matter to police,” he warned.
Former Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín added: “Someone has went to an awful lot of bother just be offensive. It is obvious that those responsible had pre-planned this.”
The poster has since been removed.
