The announcement of funding for an air ambulance for the North has been welcomed by Foyle Sinn Fein MLA Maeve McLaughlin who has called for the service to be operated on all-island basis.
Ms McLaughlin, the chairperson of the Stormont Health Committee, said the £4 million earmarked in the British government's budget, which was announced yesterday, would be used to deliver an air ambulance service similar to the service in Wales.
She said while the announcement was welcome, any air ambulance service should operateed on an all-island basis.
She added: "Emergency situations do not recognise borders and the air ambulance service should be available to everyone, regardless of where they live."
