A major economic conference being held in Derry next week will discuss the impact on the city if Britain decides to exit the European Union (EU).

Brexit: The Big EU Debate – taking place on Wednesday next, 9 March, from 9.30am to 1.00pm in the Waterfoot Hotel in the Waterside – is being hosted by the local Chamber of Commerce.

For Derry, a border town which has seen the benefits of developments in North-South co-operation both in the public and private sector, the implications of Britain’s possible exit from the EU are extensive.

Northern Ireland stands as the only region in Britain which shares a land border with another state and as such will be one of the most affected by the potential exit from the EU.

At the Derry event, high profile speakers from across Britain and Ireland will discuss the potential impact on exiting Europe, with issues to be discussed including the impact on economical stability in the region, the peace process and border controls.
