An elderly man was taken to hospital following a flat fire in the Galliagh area of Derry.
Firefighters from Northland Road station responded but a small blaze in the property at Glenabbey Drive was already out on their arrival.
A 75-year-old was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation at the scene by firefighters before he was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital.
The Fire Service revealed the man was alerted by a “sounding” smoke alarm.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental.
The incident occurred shortly before 3.30pm yesterday but details have just been released.
