The Court of Appeal in Dublin has doubled the jail sentence handed down to the driver of Ireland’s worst ever road crash.

Eight people died in the horrific crash on the Buncrana to Clonmany road in Inishowen in July 2010.

Seven of those killed where passengers in the Volkswagen Passat being driven by Shaun Kelly (27).

Kelly (pictured), from Ballymagan in Buncrana, had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of those killed.

He had originally been given a four year sentence, two of which was suspended.

Today, the High Court, which had deemed the sentence as “unduly lenient,” increased the jail term to eight years, with four years suspended.
