A new 3G floodlit pitch has opened as part of a multi-million redevelopment of Brooke Park in Derry.
The 3G pitch is a key element of the overall Brooke Park Regeneration Project that is being undertaken to transform and revitalise this significant historic park in the city.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Elisha McCallion, says the 3G pitch facilities will be greatly welcomed by the local community and represents a significant investment by Council, the Department for Social Development and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
“As part of this project the former disused tennis courts and the underused basket-ball courts were redeveloped and redesigned to create this state-of the art floodlit 3G area that is accessible for everyone interested in participating in sports activities.
“This is a very welcome facility for the local area providing an excellent facility for children, young people and community organisations to enjoy.
“I would like to thank the funders for their investment in assisting Council to utilise new sport and recreational facilities for the Derry City and Strabane District. This is just one element of a wider major regeneration project for the city that will see the transformation of Brooke Park.”
The facility can be booked through contacting staff at the Brooke Park Leisure Centre.
