Appeal for help in 'foot search' for missing Derry pensioner

The search for missing Derry pensioner John Concannon will resume today.

The 71-year-old has not been seen since late afternoon on Tuesday, 10 November last..

Yesterday, over 100 people turned up help his family, friends and neighbours carry out a “foot search.”

The search is concentrated on the Lenamore area on the outskirts of the city.

Mr Concannon was captured on CCTV getting off a bus on Lenamore Road.

The pensioner, who suffers from dementia, is believed to have got the bus from the city centre by mistake.

Members of the public are once again asked to take part in today’s search which will take place at noon.

Anyone wishing to take part is asked to be at the Irish school on Lenamore Road and are advised to wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

Mr Concannon’s niece, Rachael Concannon, thanked those who took part in yesterday’s search.

She said: “I believe more than 100 people helped us search for John.

“We Would like to take this opportunity to ask people who were there to look at the map put up here and mark where they searched so we can eliminate them off future searches.”

She said today;s search would be coordinated by “rescue professionals” who will have a specially trained dog with them.
