The Western Health and Social Care Trust has rejected claims patients and their health were put “a risk” as a result of “major IT systems failure” at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.
A “whistleblower” claimed the Trust and no back-ups and as a result at least two weeks of “sensitive patient data” was lost as a result.
It was also claimed the “failure” affected the entire Trust area from Derry to Fermanagh and “many patients” had “lost” appointments and “important” doctor eferrals.
“Patients are their health are at risk due to this,” the “whistleblower” claimed.
However, the Trust has rejected the claims.
A spokesperson said: “On 18 October 2015 the Western Trust experienced power issues in its data centre at Altnagelvin.
“No data was lost in that all data had either been processed or was re-entered from manual records.
“The Trust has carried out an extensive data verification process where all parties who had been making referrals have been requested to verify that their data has been processed, this includes any external organisations such as GP practices.”
The spokesperson concluded: “At this stage the Trust is not viewing this as a data loss.”
