The photography skills of 400 Derry school children are currently being displayed in The Playhouse, Artillery Street, as part of the ‘The Way We See It’ exhibition.
The exhibition runs until Saturday next, November 14.
Over the first six months of this year the children were given access to a digital camera, and each allowed to take it home after school for an evening to record the best things about their life – the people, places and pastimes that mean the most to them.
The project challenges negative stereotypes are what youngsters get up to in their free time, and show the things that really matter to them. In a final workshop each then chose, and captioned, their favourite photo for the exhibition.
The project was co-ordinated by us as part of the Social Education Project, and received additional funding from the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).
The schools involved in the project were St Paul’s Primary School, Fountain Primary School, Greenhaw Primary School, Steelstown Primary School, Holy Family Primary School, Ebrington Primary School, Sacred Heart Primary School, and Newbuildings Primary School.
