More resources needed to tackle car crime: McGinley
Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has called for more police resources to deal with car crime in the Ballymagroarty and Hazelbank areas of Derry.
Cllr McGinley was speaking after the latest incident in Ballymagroarty in the early hours of yesterday morning when a car was set on fire.
Cllr McGinley said: “Residents have been in contact with me, shocked that they were wakened on hearing a loud crash around 5.00am on Sunday morning .
“The vehicle was then set on fire and the Fire Service had to attend the scene.
“I have arranged now for the car to be removed from the scene.”
Cllr McGinley said there were “great concerns” in the area about the increase in car crime.
He added: “There has to be a zero tolerance approach to this recklessness and those responsible must be held to account for their actions before someone loses their life.
“And the PSNI must look at putting additional resources into this area to tackle this issue.”
