A Derry carpenter has been shortlisted for a top award.

Dale Crockett (pictured is through to the Northern Irish heat in Screwfix’s national award to reward the best in the business

The 27-year-old joiner has seen off competition from tradesmen and women across Northern Ireland and will go head-to-head with up to four other regional finalists at a judgement day on 22 October next.

If he wins, he will be on his way to Wembley in London for the national final next month where one person will win the coveted title, along with a brand new Toyota PROACE vehicle or HILUX worth £30,000.

Dale, who trades under the name K.C Joinery & Locksmiths, will compete against other finalists from across the region, and thinks his pride, dedication to his work and high standards will help him to stand out from the crowd and impress the judges.

He said; “I’ve been in the trade for 11 years and have always taken pride in everything I do. I work alongside my dad so maintaining the reputation of the family business is hugely important to me.

“I take a lot of time and care with everything I do – I honestly couldn’t sleep at night if I hadn’t completed a job to the highest standard. I even take on the jobs that other joiners turn down if I know I can sort the problem out for a homeowner.”

The heat in Northern Ireland will take place at the Newtownabbey Screwfix store on Longwood Road, on 22 October,.

Dale will take part in a number of tasks to find out if he’s got what it takes to be crowned the regional winner.
