An increase in police patrols in the Culmore area of Derry has been welcomed by SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins.

Cllr Dobbins was speaking after police seized alcohol from underage drinkers at Culmore Point last night.

Last weekend, police made two arrests in the area following the recovery of two stolen cars.

Earlier this year, Cllr Dobbins called for increased police patrols due to the levels of thefts and anti-social behaviour in the area.

Speaking today, she said: “Following a rise in the anti-social behaviour in this area, I am pleased that the PSNI have decided to increase their patrols in Culmore.

“There has been a spate of car theft in the vicinity and I have been inundated with calls regarding cars racing in the early hours and, more concerning, the volume of youth that are gathering causing a nuisance.

“Until now, there has been no alcohol involved but this, coupled with the fact that those concerned are under age, is very worrying.”

Cllr Dobbins concluded: “As in countless times before I am begging parents to try harder to know the whereabouts of your children and what they are doing, for everyone's benefit.”
