Fears are mounting over the safety of an eleventh night bonfire which is being built close to electric lines outside Tobermore in Co Derry.
Tyres and wood (pictured) are already beginning to build up at the site of the illegal bonfire which is located on the Kilcronaghan Road.
It is understood an illegal bonfire is built in the same area every year and one resident claimed it left householders “feeling ‘anxious.”
In previous years residents have been left without electricity after powerlines were damaged as a result of the fire.
The resident, who does not want to be named, said: “The fire is built yearly at the side of the road directly under power lines and a transformer box and yearly knocks the electric off in Kilross Villas and neighbouring houses.
“Year after year this is going on and local residents like myself suffer with no electric yet the authorities turn a blind eye to this act which, if it wasn’t the 12th of July period, it would be criminal to do such acts.
“The old and frail local residents are afraid to speak out as these thugs come in from Tobeermore and Maghera yearly and carry out this bonfire ritual,” added the resident.”
