Derry’s James McClean is in the running to start for the Republic of Ireland in Saturday’s European Championship game against Belgium.

This follows the news that Jon Walters is unlikely to feature in the game due to injury.

Walters has been struggling with an injury in recent days and insiders say he is likely to miss out on Saturday’s game.

McClean replaced Walters in the second half of the Republic’s opening Euros game against Sweden on Monday, a game which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Therefore, it is being speculated that he will be the man to come in should, as expected, Walters not make Saturday’s game.

Meanwhile, McClean was back in a Derry City shirt yesterday.

The Creggan man joined some of his Republic teammates to don the shirts of League of Ireland clubs that they played for (see photo above).
