Residents living in the Clarence Avenue and Lawrence Hill areas of Derry are expected to find out today if there are plans for a parking scheme in the area.

Over the past number of years, residents have complained about people who do not live in the area, which is adjacent to the Magee campus of the Ulster University, leaving their cars there during the day.

As a result, householders, including a number of elderly people, cannot park outside their own homes.

Many of those affected by the problem have said the introduction of parking charges at the nearby University of Ulster’s Magee Campus worsened the situation.

The residents’ concerns have been taken up by Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan who has asked the new minister in charge of roads whether there are any plans for the introduction of a residents parking scheme in the Clarence Avenue and Lawrence Hill area.

The minister is expected to respond to Mr Durkan today.
