A little piece of history was made at the Aviva Stadium tonight as the Republic of Ireland finished Friday night's friendly draw with a record four Derry men on the pitch.

Although there was some disappointment at the final whistle that Ireland surrendered a first half lead with Luuk De Jong's second half equaliser for the visitors, it was a good night for Derry's Shane Duffy who enjoyed a commanding performance in the centre of the Irish defence.

Long bundled Ireland into a 30th minute lead from a Robbie Brady corner as Ireland took a deserved lead into the break and enjoyed the better chances of the second half as Duffy got on the end of a number of Brady set piece deliveries.

Ireland's Good Friday friendly win over Switzerland saw history made when Duffy, James McClean and Eunan O'Kane all finished the game but that record was broken tonight as Darron Gibson was introduced on 67 minutes with McClean before O'Kane came on with 10 minutes remaining.

Ireland's best chance of a winner fell to Bournemouth midfielder O'Kane whose shot on the turn was saved at his near post by Dutch 'keeper Jasper Cillessen.
