After a nail-biting fight to the finish, the Derry entry in the Clipper Round the World Yacht race narrowly missed out on a podium place at the end of the first leg in Rio de Janeiro.
GREAT Britain crossed the finish line in Guanabara Bay just 0.8 nautical miles ahead of Derry~Londonderry~Doire to secure third spot on the 27th day.
The race from the south of England was won by LMAX Exhange with Qingdao in second place.
After a change of crew, the fleet will set sail from Rio for Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa, on leg two (the South Atlantic Challenge) on 7 October.
