A Derry woman has presented the Sperrin Unit at Atlnagelvin Hospital for the “wonderful care and treatment” she received there as a patient.
Photo shows Roberta Rutherford, along friends Stephanie Robinson and Lesley Porter, presenting a donation of £2,500 to the unit raised through a Coffee Morning and raffle held in Clooney Hall Methodist Church in the Waterside of the city.
Roberta received treatment in the Sperrin Unit and wanted to make the donation in recognition of the “wonderful care and treatment” she received there.
Sister Tara McIntyre and Staff Nurse Susan McKeown accepted the donation on behalf of the Unit.
The Sperrin Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital provides chemotherapy treatment to patients suffering from lung cancer, prostrate cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer as well as treatment for haemolotogy patients.
The unit also provides and delivers supportive treatment to patients such as blood transfusions, other services offered to patients are pre-education appointments prior to commencing chemotherapy.
It is a purpose-built chemotherapy unit with 21 treatment chairs, an inpatient ward with 14 beds, an outpatient facility with nine consulting rooms and facilities for rehabilitation specialist palliative care and support services.
