The community branch of the UNISON union has tabled an emergency motion on the future of Derry’s Foyle Haven Day Care Centre at the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) conference being held in the city tomorrow.
The motion calls on the ICTU to support the campaign to save the John Street facility.
Members of the public are being urged to support a UNISON-organised rally in support of the Centre taking place being held at 1.00pm outside the City Hotel where the conferfence is being held.
Niall McCarroll, UNISON Community Branch secretary, said: “We are askingt everyone come along and show their support for the motion and those who use the day centre, their families, the workers and the community at large, which relies on this vital service.
“Special thanks to Derry Trade Union Council for supporting the emergency motion and Eamon McCann for proposing the motion at tomorrow's conference on behalf of everyone concerned.”
