The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council has revealed the line-up for her charity event which will kickstart the city’s Jazz and Big Band Festival taking place at the end of the month.

Over 300 will take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend, 28 April – 2 May.

One event, which is always a highlight and the ideal way to kick off the festivities, is the Mayor’s charity event which will take place in Da Vincis on the opening night..

The evening is dedicated to the Mayor Elisha McCallion’s chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society, with the proceeds of all tickets going to the cause.

Jazz Festival favourites, the Jive Aces and Gypsy Swing sensations Manouche Swing, will take to the stage for what promises to be a show-stopping night.

Mayor McCallion, said she was really looking forward to the event.

She added; “The Mayor’s Charity evening is always a brilliant night and I am delighted that the proceeds are going to such a good cause.

“Everyone knows that the fight against Alzheimer’s is a cause that’s particularly important to me and I really want to take this opportunity to praise the work that is being done by the Alzheimer’s Society on a daily basis to help families affected by the condition across the district and beyond.

“I want to encourage everyone to come out and support the event. Most of the entertainment over the course of the weekend is free so people will be enjoying the benefits and can maybe spare that little bit extra which will make such a big difference to the Alzheimer’s Society.”
