Derry City travel to Wexford Youths this evening seeking a fourth successive win in the Airtricity Premier Division (kick off 5.00pm),
Skipper Ryan McBride (pictured) is a doubt for the game while Joshua Daniels will be missing for the foreseeable future following last Sunday’s Buncrana pier tragedy which claimed the lives of his mother, younger sister, two nephews and the partner his elder sister.
City manager Kenny Shiels (pictured) said it had been a difficult week for the club and preparing the players, who formed a guard of honour at the funerals for the victims on Thursday, had not been easy.
He added: “I’ve been with Josh most days. He’s holding up but it’s obviously heartbreaking.
“We’ve tried to lift the players all week.
“I’m hopeful that we can go and win the match.
“We have to be positive, we can’t just stay in the negative zone.
“We’ve worked hard at getting them up and I feel as if the players are up for it.”
Derry sit joint second in the league on nine points along with Shamrock Rovers, St Patrick’s Athletic and Cork City, three points behind leaders Dundalk who have played a game more.
Wexford are second from bottom with only one point from their four games played.
