Over 80 volunteers took a break from their jobs during the week to take part in a massive clean-up event in Derry.
Organised by Business in the Community and Volunteer Now, and supported by SPAR, the ‘Be a Saint Day’ saw over 30 responsible employers release staff for a day to help 29 community and voluntary organisations.
Locally, the initiative was led and supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
In Derry, Altnagelvin Hospital was supported by staff from Fujitsu, the Creggan Country Park was supported by Allstate NI and PeoplePlusNI, while the Creggan Burn Park was supported by Strabane District Council.
Meanwhile, Foyle Day Care and Playtrail were supported by Firstsource, Foyle Women’s Aid was supported by staff from Seagate, Pennyburn Play Group was helped by Funeral Services NI and the Pink Ladies by OneSource Virtual.

“Teams rolled up their sleeves and got to painting, renovating or making over a green area. They undertook projects that just couldn’t be completed by the groups themselves.
“The work they did literally transformed places and spaces used by the community.”
