Aitricity Premier Division: All square in the battle of the two Cities at Brandywell

Derry City are holding a much-fancied Cork City scoreless in the Candystripes’ first home game of the new Airtricity Premier Division.

In a game of few chances, Derry had the best opportunity to go in front shortly before the break but Barry McNamee {pictured) fired into the side netting.

There is around 1,500 spectators at the game who held a minute’s applause in the 18th minute in memory of the late Mark Farren, Derry City’s all-time leading goalscorer, who died last month following a long battle with cancer.

Derry City: Gerard Doherty, Ryan McBride, Dean Jarvis, Aaron Barry, Niclas Vemmelund, Barry McNamee, Gareth McGlynn, Conor McCormack, Harry Monaghan, Ronan Curtis, Rory Patterson. Substitutes: Aaron McEneff, Mark McEleney, Patrick McClean, Joshua Daniels, Nathan Boyle, Jordan Allan, Keith Ward.
