Finn Harps 2 Derry City 1
Finn Harps have won the big Premier Division game of the evening,
Harps had five players making their debut, including former Derry City captain Barry Molloy, who has come back out of retirement.
Derry nearly took the lead in the opening minute when Gareth McGlynn crossed deep into the box but Jordan Allan failed to connect properly with a header.
The visitors were clearly on top early on and McGynn then had an effort blocked while Aaron McEneff blazed a shot over from 20 yards.
But Harps took the lead on the stroke of half time with David Scully rising to meet an Adam Hanlon cross and score.
Ryan Curran then got the second for Harps on 75 minutes as he raced through to slot the ball home.
Rory Patterson pulled one back for Derry in the 90th minute but Harps held on.
City may feel that they deserved a point but it was the Finn Park faithful who left singing on this occasion.
This was the 60th competitive meeting between the two sides since Derry entered the League of Ireland back in 1985.
During that time, Harps have managed to overcome their near neighbours on only five previous occasions.
