Additional funding is to be made available to local community centres by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
The decision by the council’s Health and Communities Committee has been welcomed by Sinn Fein Cllr Eric McGinley.
He said: “As a result of additional monies from central government the Council is proposing to make available grants of up to £2,000 for community centres.”
Cllr McGinley (pictured) said the funding would “prove useful” in assisting centres to carry out repairs to the buildings or to secure additional equipment.
He added: “Subject to final approval at council’s monthly meeting it is intended to advertise this funding early next month and I would encourage groups who are using community centres to identify opportunities for making bids to this fund.”
